Stornoway, the principal town of the Island of Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland, is home of the Lewis Pipe Band. The Island is the third largest land mass in Great Britain, following the UK mainland and Ireland. It currently has a population of about 20,000 with some 10,000 resident in Stornoway. The Band parade in the town centre every Saturday evening from the end of May till the end of August, weather permitting! They also take part in other events such as the Hebridean Celtic Festival in July, the Carnival Parade in early August, the Fireworks Display at New Year and many other events throughout the island.
In recent years the Band has revived an old association with The Isle of Skye Pipe Band and now travel to Portree for the Pipe Band Festival in June and the Skye Games in August.
The Band is purely a voluntary body, and a registered charity, the Members receive no payment for their services, and is totally dependent on public support for its continued existence. Scottish Charity number SC022972.
